yourcodenameis:milo

Leeds Festival 2005 review

By Scott Johnson | Published:

Listening to yourcodenameis:milo is like being hammered in the head repeatedly by one of those big electric drill things that you see overage B&Q Employees advertising in television commercials. For the most part they are a heavier version of The Rasmus. Yourcodenameis:milo carry a depressing barrage of laconic vocals and eccentric musical arrangements which would actually be quite good if they didn't suddenly divert into a world of psycho-analytical emo warbling.

They are all extremely talented musicians but the band seem to be reaching for a place that they will never get to. Unlike The Rasmus, Yourcodenameis:milo don't have the type of songs to project them to any level of real success. This is probably a good thing. The emo industry is so self destructive that the commercial success of one band can only lead to its followers rejecting it for becoming too commercial.

The band share a lot of qualities with Inme, but aren't half as good. Heavy, layered guitars and screaming vocals have never had much of an impact on me anyway and I watched from a distance a group of teenage girls bouncing against a couple of fat, spotty teenagers and a hairy hippy before a six and a half foot giant of a man decided to join the party and subsequently ended it all. More work for St. Johns then.
