Foo Fighters

Leeds Festival 2005 review

By Luke Seagrave | Published:

In the past when I have had to endure a set by the Foo Fighters, I have always lost the will to live - the longer they play, the more that I want to kill myself - so you can appreciate my disappointment when they were announced as headliners.

However one of my friends who had seen them at Reading, told me that they were amazing now and have really improved and that I should make the effort to catch them live. So whilst waiting for them to arrive on stage I noticed that they have really made an effort - the stage set had a stack of amplifiers stacked as if they had fallen on top of each other, along with a backdrop showing the Foo Fighters symbol.

Dave Grohl and his entourage arrived on stage to a volcanic applause from the 50,000 strong crowd. From the opening track to the dying notes of the last song this was nothing short of incredible.

They have really progressed when it comes to playing live, and they have easily become one of the best live rock bands around. Admittedly I only know a couple of tracks by them, which must mean they were doing something incredible to keep me glued to their set for the entire night.

Dave knows all the right buttons to press to make the crowd feel special, and they genuinely seemed happy to be up on stage playing for us, instead of the usual ‘we cant be arsed’ attitude that some bands project whilst playing at festivals.

My personal highlight of their set was ‘Best Of You’, Dave just kicked out so much energy during that track that you began to feel exhausted just watching him.

Without a doubt the Foo Fighters are worthy headliners! A fantastic way to close the Leeds festival!
