Ladyfest Bristol 2007


This is the second Ladyfest to be held in Bristol. It takes place from 27th August to 2nd September at various venues across Bristol and is a diverse festival representing a wide selection of women's creativity including art exhibitions, club nights, gigs, workshops, films, theatre and spoken word events.

Musically, they are presenting indie, electro, hip hop and folk nights. There will also be art exhibitions by a range of local and national artists, as well as film, theatre, the Cube cabaret and workshops (drawing, writing, knitting, self defence, and music). The programme is as follows:
Monday, 27th August
Launch Party: Featuring a rare performance by Anat Ben-David from Chicks on Speed, Lady Lucy's film 'Don't Do Tricks', Gaptooth, a speaker from Bristol Fawcett Society and DJ Blackrainbow. At The Cube, Dove Street from 7pm onwards. Tickets - £7.
Tuesday, 28th August
Feminist Theory Workshop with Prof. Judith Squires at the Malcolm X Community Centre, Ashley Road from 7 - 9pm. Free.
Ladyfest Totally Unplugged: With Caroline Martin, Rachael Dadd, Rasha Shaheen, Poppy and Lacuna at The Lansdown, Clifton Road from 7.30pm. Tickets - £4.
Wednesday, 29th August
Feminist Archive South: Open Day with tours around archive and informal discussions about the archive and its importance at Trinity Road Library, from 2 - 5pm. Free.
UK Feminist Forum: Opportunity to learn, discuss and brainstorm Trinity Road Library from 6.30 - 8.30pm. Free.
Folk Tales Ladyfest Special: Stories told through words and song by Rachael Dadd, Eirlys Rhiannon, Pink Froot, Jesse Paul, Jane Flood + Sian Norris at The Scout Hut, Redcliffe Backs, Bristol Harbour from 7.30pm. Tickets - £4.
Cherry Fest: Cherry Bomb DJ with retro sounds, cherry cocktails and cherry fairy cakes aplenty at SHOP, Christmas Steps from 7 - 11pm. Free.
Thursday, 30th August
Ladyfest Mix-Tape-Live!: Venus Bogardus, Drunk Granny, Shut Up Sonya + Blue Tobias, plus Ladyfest CD Swap Shop! at The Junction, Stokes Croft from 7.30pm. Tickets - £4.
Ladyscreen: Film night in collaboration with Cube regulars Bluescreen showcasing local women's films – bring your short films (20 mins or under) along and have them screened at The Cube, Dove Street from 7.30pm. Tickets - £3/£2.
Friday, 31st August
Zuleika Ziegfeld's Cabaret of Curiosities at The Cube, Dove Street from 8pm. Ticket price unknown.
Lipstick Live!: The Mentalists, Manic Cough, Colliding Lemons + The Panthergirls Dance Troupe at The Louisiana, Wapping Road from 8pm. Tickets - £5.

Vocal Performance Workshop: All ages and abilities welcome at The Cube, Dove Street from 12.30 - 3.30pm. Free.
Ladyfest Question Time: Have we achieved gender equality? What do modern feminists argue for? Come and put your questions to our panel...at The Cube, Dove Street from 3.30 - 5pm. Free.
Socialism Ladyfest Special: DJs include Chicks with Decks and Lula + Gav (Lupine Lounge), Bands TBA at The Thekla Social, East Mud Dock from 6.30pm. Ticket price unknown.
Sunday, 2nd September
Ladyfest Stitch 'n' Bitch at Café Kino, Nine Tree Hill from 4 - 6pm. Free.
Creative Writing and Storytelling: A time to get your words and tales into the open at Café Kino, Nine Tree Hill. Free.
