Isle Of Wight Festival 2006 review

By Scott Williams | Published:

Sven’s brought on Hargreaves and I thought The Upper Room were uninspiring, glad I’m not watching the football on hearing that news I return from the bar melting in the heat, coat myself in sunblock and decide to give the Scottish duo a chance.

The Reid Brothers play tracks which are clearly new and have grown from merely being a duo to a full band, with a much fuller sound than I remember them having when their hit was on telly. This is very pleasing stuff and songslike ‘Let’s Get married’ and ‘Born Innocent, Found Guilty’ have the crowd, which is multiplying in numbers all the time, singing along.

It multiplies with huge rapidity doubling minutes after the final whistle and continues to swell. The Scotland flags are out in the crowd and Tartan hats and ginger wigs by the time the crowd has trebled. The four piece band behind the Scottish pair keyboards, bass, drums and electric/steel guitar have that Celtic rhythm thing sussed that always goes down a storm at festivals.

Coupled with this reeling jig sound is the well known tunes and ‘I’m Gonna Be’ (500 miles) has the crowd clapping and suddenly turns into a huge sing along, the first of the day.

Shame their set was only an hour but their talent lies in having sing-along tunes, just add crowd for instant fun. Certainly once the crowd arrives it’s a party atmosphere. A surprise hit of the festival and create a great atmosphere of happy revellers!
