Razorlight

Isle of Wight Festival 2005 review

By Scott Williams | Published:

I’d not seen Razorlight before and wasn’t sure whether they’d be able to pull off a headline length slot. I needn’t have worried they were energetic and more than capable of being placed where they were on the bill. For my money they should have replaced Kylie at Glasto after all. With a stage set made to look like a living room complete with Lampshades and a large black backdrop with a white emblazoned Razorlight upon it, they came out fired up.

We all enjoyed the pure rock of most of the tracks from the album Up All Night, including Leave Me Alone, Somewhere Else, Golden Touch, Stumble And Fall, and Rip it Up. With Johnny Borrell stripping to the bare chested frontman look within 20 minutes and the band jumping and racing around the stage. Some new tracks were also showcased like Casey’s Room and by the end it all got a bit too rock n roll.

Possibly slightly smashed Bass player Carl Dalemo didn’t want it to end, playing bass lines after the finale. Then kicking monitors and finally throwing a £500 radio mic, still live into the crowd. You got the feeling both the sound crew and the rest of the band were wishing he hadn’t. Eventually a stage hand had to throw a towel over him and drag him off stage. Rock n Roll! A fine performance by Razorlight on the night.
