Isle of Wight Festival 2005 review

By Scott Williams | Published:

"This is the first time we’ve ever played in daylight!" says lead singer Sam Forrest and certainly their crunching bass lines and high octane guitar would suit the night time more.

This is serious grunge verging just short of being noise and the Manchester band smash through four songs before the tempo lets up to the more relaxed pop stylings of ‘Unsatisfied’ even this ends in a wall of feedback and they burst straight into another tune from the forthcoming album ‘Everything Is’ where there’s a slight feel of the Manchester sound hidden in there somewhere.

But after a while I start to lose interest, it seems that they’re running low on quality tunes and perhaps they are with only one album under their belt. However there are clearly a fair few of their fans in front of the stage today.

It’s nice to hear the heavier end of rock at IOW for a change and they’re pretty competent at the use of distortion pedals, one to watch out for in a couple of years once they’ve developed a few more killer tunes.
