The Stands review

Isle of Wight Rock Festival 2004

By Scott Williams | Published:

The Stands take to the stage with a hail of feedback. Obviously scousers they have that distinct look and the lead singer looks like he could be the brother of Space’s lead singer at first glance.

As The Who are on later it seems big drummers are the order of the day and theirs certainly delivers.

Their music is perfect for the Isle of Wight, retro seventies and feels great to listen to at a festie while gazing around the crowd of happy festie goers.

Their sound is bluesy at times, even more so when the harmonica kicks in. The bookers for bands for this festie have pulled out another great act and they’re perfect for this time of day packed with their big summer tunes.

The Stands

It’s classic old school rock and for a moment we’re transported back to the seventies and there seems to be more tie dye in the crowd. Here She Comes Again is especially well received.

They close with Angel Dust and the drummer shows his talent once again, combining with a jagged bass line and crunching guitars this band know how to rock. They are given a great send off, and they respond with a totally awesome drum solo later combined with the kind of fretwork the 70’s star at IOW would have been proud. What an unexpected highlight.
