Canary Wharf Jazz Festival 2011


Canary Wharf becomes the centre of the jazz world when performers take the stage at the Canary Wharf Jazz Festival happening at Canada Square Park, Canary Wharf, London from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th August 2011.

Line-up

Friday: Femi Temowo, Ska Cubano.

Saturday: Cousin Alice and the Boisdale Blue Rhythm Band, Aquarium, Gwyneth Herbert, Cuban Combination, The Herbaliser and James Morton.

Sunday: Kit Downes Sextet, Grupo X, Sarah Gillespie Quartet featuring Gilad Atzmon, Jay Phelps Big Band with Clare Teal.

Part of the festival for the first time this year is Jazz on the Screen; a series of stylised documentaries shown on the big screen in Canada Square Park in collaboration with Rich Mix Cinema and Arts Centre. Ben Stern's landmark Jazz on a Summer Day (1966) features the Newport Jazz Festival of 1958. The Monk and Monk in Europe (1968) films provide insight into the complicated life of Thelonius Monk, one of the most influential figures in the history of jazz.

Fri 7pm-10pm / Saturday 1.30pm - 10pm / Sunday 1.30pm - 8.15pm.

Transport

Take the Jubilee Line, Docklands Light Railway or Thames Clipper to Canary Wharf.

Accommodation

This event does not have camping but there are a number of hotels, hostels and guest houses in the area.
