Coldplay, Bring Me The Horizon, Chase & Status, Craig David, and Ellie Goulding are the first acts to be announced for BBC Radio 1's 13th annual free Big Weekend will take place in Exeter's Powderham Castle taking place over three days from Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May 2016.

Exeter City Council Leader Pete Edwards,  told the BBC (here), "This is so exciting for the city and for the young people of Exeter and Teignbridge. The atmosphere will be amazing at Powderham Castle - a once in a lifetime experience."

Headline artists and a full line-up of international and UK artists, bands and DJs will be confirmed in the coming months.

Tickets will be free and are obtained through a lottery. There is no charge for the concert itself, but a handling fee per ticket will be applied to help cover all associated ticket handling costs. The majority of the tickets for BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend 2016 are being allocated to people living in the surrounding area.

More artists will be announced soon with ticketing details for Exeter's Powderham Castle revealed on 21 March.
