Bestival organiser Rob da Bank is launching a new twin sister to the non-camping festival Common People in Oxfordshire.

The second Common People will take place on Southampton Common in Hampshire on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend of Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May 2016, with a new sister event to be held in Oxford's South Park, on the same weekend.

Common People Oxford, run in conjunction with Oxford City Council, will have a capacity of 30,000 music fans, and is to feature a mix of international bands and DJs, as well as a variety of local acts.

Common People Curator Rob da Bank said, "Common People HQ is buzzing with excitement today to announce that we’re bringing our show to Oxford next May. South Park is a stunning setting and we have an amazing line up to share with you very soon - from pop stars to underground legends, theatre and spoken word to our ace Kids Area and some special Oxford touches. Thanks for having us Oxford."

City councillor Mark Lygo, talking to the Oxford Mail (here), said: “This is going to be a fantastic event for Oxford, bringing world-class bands and DJs to the city for the first time. The organisers have more than a decade’s experience putting on the award-winning Bestival, which earlier this year featured Missy Elliott, Duran Duran and the Chemical Brothers. I cannot wait to find out who they will be bringing to Oxford next year.

"I'm also really pleased that, from the start of our conversations with them, the organisers have been keen to promote local talent, meaning Oxford's promoters, schools and musicians will get to perform at Common People Oxford alongside the world-famous acts."

There are no acts confirmed yet for 2016. Ticket prices have not yet been announced and are not yet on sale, and the price has not yet been announced. We'll have the details for you when they're available.

Organisers of Common People said, "A twin for our already established Southampton event held on the same spring bank holiday weekend, both festivals will share some line-up, with a few key regional differences to give each show an unmistakably homespun feel."

They also stated, "We're super-excited to announce that Common People is back for the Spring Bank Holiday 2016. Kicking off the festival season in wild style, the 28th and 29th May will be party central... so don’t miss out – save the date! A peerless two-day metropolitan shindig from the makers of Bestival, Common People is a party-fuelled greenfield haven of off the wall attractions and mind-blowing spectacles... Our face-meltingly brilliant line-up of world class superstar bands and DJs will be announced very soon."

It's likely that there will not be overnight camping on site at South Park.
