Fans of Ritchie Blackmore may be aware that he's to play several rock dates in 2016 with Rainbow performing the classic rock anthems of Rainbow and Deep Purple.

The guitar legend has already confirmed two shows in Germany in June, fuelling rumour about performing at Download Festival, however this has been scotched by his agent, Alec Leslie who has told Metal Shock Finland, (here), "Rainbow will only be playing three shows in 2016: two in Germany and one in the UK." He added that, "The UK performance will not be at Download Festival" and, "the show will be announced on the 2nd November."

The 14th Download Festival happening at Donington Park over the weekend of Friday 10th to Sunday 12th June 2016, have already announced that topping the bill on the opening night is Rammstein, Saturday headliner is Black Sabbath, and Sunday's headliner is Iron Maiden, they are the first acts confirmed for 2016. In total around 150 acts appear over five stages over the three days of the festival.
