Bosses of T in the Park have stated that the will cease to be if it is unable to go ahead at the proposed new site at Strathallan Castle in Perthshire.

Geoff Ellis, of DF Concerts, has said he does not see the festival happening again if planners side with those opposed to the proposed new site on environmental grounds concerning the ancient woodland on the site, which have recently been given more weight by the recent arrival of ospreys, which are protected.

The three-day concert is still awaiting planning approval from Perth and Kinross Council. Public consultation on the plans ends on 24 April and councillors will debate the application at a meeting still to be arranged for next month to decide council approval. Ellis has said if planners don’t give the green light for Strathallan he doesn’t think T in the Park can continue.

Asked on BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland programme yesterday whether the festival would continue if it did not take place at Strathallan, he said, "I don’t think there is a venue, without going very far north in Scotland, which would be viable for T in the Park; so yes, I don’t think it would carry on if we didn’t host it at Strathallan this year. Scotland needs T in the Park."

Ellis believes that if the application is declined then he doesn't feel anywhere else in rural Scotland would be any more suitable, and would come up against the same concerns. He also has allayed fears of the osprey nest at the site, saying the organisers have a good working relationship with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) who have now declared the nest on the site active and wildlife legislation prevents the ospreys (only 200 left in Scotland) from being disturbed.

The 22nd edition see the the event for 92,000 music fans move to Strathallan Castle in Perthshire over full three days from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th July and features a line-up including Kasabian, The Libertines, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds The Prodigy, Stereophonics, Avicii, David Guetta, Sam Smith, Rudimental, Fatboy Slim, Hozier, Mark Ronson (DJ set), The Script, Twin Atlantic, alt-J, George Ezra, Jessie J, Courteeners, The Vaccines, Art Department, The Proclaimers, St. Vincent, Jamie T, Paloma Faith, Above & Beyond, Alabama Shakes, Kodaline, Catfish & the Bottlemen, Clean Bandit, and many more.
