Ska-tastic additions to Godiva festival

Two founder members of The Specials Neville Staple, and Horace Panter's Uptown Ska Collective lead the latest ska flavoured additions to the line-up for the FREE Godiva Festival, happening from Friday 4th until Sunday 6th July 2014 at War Memorial Park.

Horace Panter’s Uptown Ska Collective will be playing on the Sunday afternoon, and Neville Staple bringing his own distinctive brand of Ska on the Saturday afternoon. King Hammond will also be playing on the Saturday afternoon in the Rhythm Tent and with new local ska act Barb'd Wire featuring original local Rude Boy Trevor Evans also announced for Saturday.

Opening the ska-influenced afternoon are The Activators, a 10-piece band whose line-up includes Pablo Cook, formerly of Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, Pulp, Moby and Lily Allen fame.

The ska line-up also includes The Selecter celebrating their 35th anniversary by performing seminal album ‘Too Much Pressure’ in full, and Skabilly Rebels.

They join Saturday main stage headliners Happy Mondays, plus We Are Scientists, Funeral for a Friend, Buzzcocks, and comedians Seymour Mace, Kate Lucas, and John Hastings.

Godiva will be covering music to suit all tastes and featuring the ever-popular Godiva Unsigned, showcasing fresh, local talent.

In addition to live musical the free and ticketless event was also hosts an annual carnival, a fairground and many more family and community based activities and entertainment.
