Festival organiser and farmer Michael Eavis has hinted that Robert Plant may be making an appearance at the ancient Glastonbury Abbey's grounds for this year's Glastonbury Extravaganza.

eFestivals has been told that the printing on the back of Michael's Christmas cards, he sent out last year, reveals the former Led Zeppelin frontman wants to play at the Glastonbury Abbey grounds, in Somerset. The exact wording is "Luckily and thankfully Robert Plant wants to play at the Abbey on 9th August."

Michael Eavis, who is an ambassador for the abbey, could well be referring to an appearance by Robert Plant's new band, Sensational Space Shifters ft Robert Plant.

Reportedly the singer has just finished recording a new album at Peter Gabriel‘s Real World Studios in the south west with the band who have previously headlined WOMAD in 2012.

They then toured through 2013 wrapping up their live dates in October with an appearance at London Bluesfest presenting a set of re-worked Led Zeppelin classics, psychobilly takes on Mississippi Blues, and a fusion of African rhythms and transcendental Bristol trip-hop.

The new band includes West African musician Juldeh Camara, guitarists Skin Tyson and Justin Adams, drummer Dave Smith, Massive Attack keyboardist John Baggott, and bassist Billy Fuller, and are already booked to perform at the Colours of Ostrava festival in July in north Moravia in the Czech Republic.

The farmer has apart from the fallow year run the Extravaganza every year since 1996 in August on the historic site which has been under restoration throughout last year. In 2012 the event was replaced by Orchestra in a Field run by Charles Hazlewood who has revealed he also intends to hold the event again in July 2014.

eFestivals will bring you more information about the Robert Plant performance once it's been confirmed.
