Boomtown Fair will not be prosecuted for breaching its licensing conditions for the second year running. The annual four-day event held in August this year attracted 30,000 and breached conditions of noise levels as well as the 4am deadline.

The event is hugely popular and had sold out for the fifth year running with fans eager able to sample an amazing variety of entertainment including the full Arcadia Spectacular show (pictured) as well as more than 30 mini venues and over 300 musical acts.

Winchester City Council announced at a meeting yesterday that it would not prosecute the event's organisers but it has opted to hold a formal review the licence for the annual event at Matterley Estate and the event's licence application will be considered by the council's licensing sub-committee.

In a statement, the council said “The organisers learned a great deal from the previous year and produced a successful event with fewer complaints and much-improved site management and health and safety.

The brief nature of one of the breaches – for a few minutes after the 4am shutdown by one operator on site – the highly technical aspects of the noise conditions and external legal advice all persuaded the Council that a licence review rather than prosecution would be a proportionate response."

The Council are clearly onside with the Festival and are happy to work alongside the organisers to further reduce the number of complaints and problems in future.

Boomtown organisers, in a statement, last night said, “We are really pleased with the outcome of the council’s investigation and to see that all the investment we have put into the festival with regards to infrastructure and sound proofing has been taken into consideration.”

The festival released their tickets last Monday night, 4th November, with all 5,000 of the Early Bird discounted tier one tickets snapped up and a large dent has been made in the tier two tickets!
