Lou Reed announced for Antony Hegarty's Meltdown

tickets go on sale next Thursday

American rock legend Lou Reed is the latest artist to be added to this year’'s Meltdown Festival at London’'s Southbank Centre.

The songwriter, who is best known as guitarist, vocalist, and principal songwriter of The Velvet Underground, has joined the bill of this year's festival curated by his friend and collaborator, Antony. Reed will perform a rare one-off London concert at the Royal Festival Hall on Friday 10th August.

Tickets will be priced from £45, and will go on general sale at 10am on Thursday 31st May.

The 'Walk On The Wild Side' singer joins the first acts confirmed who include Elizabeth Fraser, Marc Almond, Diamanda Galas, Laurie Anderson, CocoRosie, Joey Arias, The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, Vaginal Davis & Tenderloin, William Basinski, Maxim Moston, Planningtorock, Light Asylum, Marina Abramovic, Kembra Pfahler, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Myrninerest & Cyclobe, Selda, Charles Atlas, and Hal Willner.

There are still many more acts to be announced.

Meltdown takes place over all 21 acres of the Southbank Centre, including the riverside, Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall. The dates for Meltdown 2012 are confirmed as Wednesday 1st until Sunday 12th August 2012.
