The Upton upon Severn Folk Festival which celebrates its 23rd Birthday over this coming May Bank holiday from Friday 4th until Monday 7th May 2012, has today confirmed it will still go ahead despite flooding in the town of Upton Upon Severn in Worcestershire.

Organisers have announced on the festival's website, (here), "Thanks to the generosity of a local farmer we have the offer of an alternative field as the sports ground in Upton is likely to be un-usable. This is about a mile out of Upton and we will be organising a complimentary bus service over the weekend. Watch the web site for further details."

Yesterday the town centre and river side were clear of water but about 1/3 of the campsite had standing water on it. It's believed that the river peaks are expected today. The festival have put in place contingency plans for tractors and tow vehicles.

The festival's line-up includes John Prentice & Jill Dury, Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin, The Young'un, Jaywalkers, Ralph Jordan Trio, Hissyfit & Dave Swann, Brian Peters, Jazz Roots with Steamchicken and friends, Tony Portlock, Sunjay Brayne, Stompin' Dave, Cloudstreet, Steamchicken Ceilidh Band, John Dipper & Luke Daniels, Tradac, Jim Mageean & Graeme Knights, and more.

The festival will also have over 50 Morris and other dance sides plus ceilidhs, concerts, workshops, craft fair, music and song sessions, street theatre, a grand procession, stalls, juggling and other activities on the river bank.

There will also be free dances under the bridge, plus the popular 'Upton Fringe' events, and spontaneous street acts.
