KT Tunstall has been revealed as the Monday afternoon main stage concert headliner for Shrewsbury Folk Festival held over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

KT Tunstall
The Scottish singer songwriter has been confirmed as the final headline act for the festival. She is currently touring in a new show called 'Floating Palace' which sees her perform alongside folk favourites, Eliza and Martin Carthy.

Tunstall joins a line-up that includes Richard Thompson, Kate Rusby, Show of Hands, Dervish, Anxo Lorenzo, Plainsong, Session A9, Sweetback Sisters, Karine Polwart, Jon Boden and the Remnant Kings, Vin Garbutt, Jim Moray, Jackie Oates, Lau, Abigail Washburn, Vishten, Fay Hield, Bad Anna, Faustus, Madison Violet, Vamm, Rua MacMillan, Jonathan Byrd, Baskery, Old Man Luedecke, Scoville Units, and Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston, plus dance bands Florida, All Blacked Up, Glow Worms, Blackbeard's Tea Party, This Way Up, and Blowzabella.

Festival Director Alan Surtees said: "Having KT perform as the final act on the last day is really going to be the icing on the cake. She is one of the most successful cross over artists around today and we are delighted that she’s going to be at Shrewsbury.

"She'll be closing the concert and there is no need for anyone to buy a separate ticket or pay extra just to see KT perform – it's just all part and parcel of the ticket price.

"We are selling at a rate far in excess of last year when we sold out more than three months before the festival. I can't advise strongly enough that you get your tickets before they all go."

The Shrewsbury Folk Festival was formerly known as the Bridgnorth Folk Festival, and is a four day event blending a tradition of folk music and dance and offers musical and cultural diversity in a family friendly format. In 2012 the festival takes place from Friday 24th until Monday 27th August.

Early bird tickets (bought before Wednesday 29th February 2012) are priced at £108.50 for a full weekend ticket. A youth (aged 12-17 years) weekend ticket is priced at £66.50. A child (aged 5-11 years) weekend ticket is priced at £20.50. Children aged four and under go free. Day tickets start at £32.50 for adults, and there are also family tickets priced at £313.50 available. Camping is available to all weekend ticket holders at a price of £20 per adult.

The festival features five music venues, a dance tent, dozens of workshops, a children's festival, Refolkus - a dedicated youth programme for 12 to 25 -year-olds, on-site camping, a craft fair, and food village.

It also raises funds every year for its charity partner Hope House Hospice to fund its music therapy work for children with life limiting illnesses. Over the past four years, donations from festival goers and £1 from every adult ticket sold has helped to raise nearly £20,000.
