Afro Celt Sound System headline Bristol Folk Festival

Afro Celt Sound System will headline the Monday line-up at the indoor Bristol Folk Festival held over May Day Bank Holiday.

Their performance at Bristol is likely to be the band's only UK summer festival appearance this year.

Simon Emmerson's Afro Celt Sound System will bring the 2nd Bristol Folk Festival at Colston Hall to an close with their fusion of traditional Celtic tunes with African rhythms and dance grooves.

Co-organiser Paul Preager of Bristol Music Trust said, "With their excellent reputation as one of the world's most exciting live acts, we're thrilled to announce Afro Celts will star in our festival finale. Alongside two award-winning West Country names for our Saturday and Sunday headline acts- - Show of Hands and Cara Dillon - we believe we have an enviable line-up for the second Bristol Folk Festival."

As well as up to 40 acts, the festival will feature Morris dancers, mummers and maypoles, ceilidhs,and singalong sessions. Also confirmed is Karine Polwart, Rua Macmillan, Phil Bassindale, 3 Daft Monkeys, Scoville Units, Lady Maisery, Will Pound, Hannah James and Sam Sweeney, and Young'Uns. Expect also ceilidhs, workshops, and singalong sessions.

Festivalgoers can be guaranteed no wet weather problems as the whole event will take place on two stages in the city's Colston Hall running from Saturday 5th May until Monday 7th May 2012.

Tickets are on sale priced at £80 for the three days (concessions £70). Family tickets are priced at £200 (2 adults and two children aged 5-15) and under 5s go free.

Those wanting to camp for the festival will be able to stay a minutes walk from the venue at St Mary-on-the-Quay church. The church in Colston Street will welcome campers to its hall for just £12 a night (under 15s must be accompanied by a responsible adult and are full price but under 5s go free.)
