plane crash forces Decapitated out of Damnation Festival

band have to cancel appearance on bonfire night

By Scott Williams | Published:

Polish death metal band Decapitated have had to pull out of their performance this Saturday at Leeds' Damnation festival.

The band were returning from a tour in America this week, when the plane they were travelling on was forced to crash land in Poland. As a consequence, the band, whilst not seriously injured, will not be able to travel this weekend.

A statement from the band was received as follows, "We are extremely sorry to inform our fans, that due to unforeseen circumstances that are out of our control, we will unfortunately have to cancel our shows in Aalborg (Aalborg Metal Festival) and Leeds (Damnation Festival)."

Festival Organiser, Gavin McInally added "It's a major blow to the festival to lose a band like Decapitated, especially with only days to go but I understand entirely why they need time to recover from what must have been a terrifying incident.

"It's disappointing news for both us and the band but most importantly, no one was seriously injured and hopefully we will be able to host Decapitated in the future."

Ulver have agreed to extend their set to 90 minutes following the news and Damnation Festival have pledged to do everything possible to make this up to disappointed Decapitated fans.

Gavin McInally continues, "Despite this set back, we will continue to put the final touches to this, our seventh edition of Damnation Festival - and it's shaping up to be an awesome day. Earlier concerns about poor ticket sales have been laid to rest; the Damnation faithful have shown their true colours and this looks set to be a stormer of a festival. All that's left for you guys to do is show up, and party hard with us."

The seventh instalment of Damnation, the one-day indoor metal event with a metal market is held over three stages at the University of Leeds Union, and takes place this Saturday 5th November 2011.

The line-up includes The Devon Townsend Project, Ulver, Godflesh, Grand Magus, Conan, Cerebral Bore, A Forest Of Stars, Humanfly, Talons, Illuminatus, God Is An Astronaut, Evile, Turisas, Chthonic, Xerath, Paul Catten performing Medulla Nocte, Shining, Astrohenge, Amplifier, Altar of Plagues, Doom, and Dragged Into Sunlight across three stages.
