Coachella to run over two weekends

California's Coachella Valley Music Festival has announced it will be a twin weekend event next year.

A statement from organisers said, "In an effort to try and accommodate everyone who wants to experience the festival, Coachella has announced that in 2012 there will be two separate events, held over two consecutive weekends. We will attempt to produce two identical festival weekends. That means same lineup, same art, same place, different people.

"We know many of you were unable to attend this year's festival because passes sold out much sooner than anticipated. We were truly surprised by the overwhelming response and remain honored by your passion and enthusiasm. We also know some of you purchased through non legitimate sources and were inconvenienced, gouged or totally scammed. We hope that these changes will give everyone the opportunity to purchase directly from Coachella.com."

The dates for 2012 are confirmed as Friday 13th to Sunday 15th April for weekend one, and again a week later from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd April for weekend two.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (aka Coachella) the three-day annual music and arts festival is held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California, in the Inland Empire's Coachella Valley. The event features a wide choice of genres of music including alternative rock, hip hop, and electronic music as well as large scale sculptural art.

There are no acts cosnfirmed yet for 2012.

Tickets will be priced at $269 (approx £172), for the third consecutive year, for general admission 3 day pass, and go on sale on Friday, June 3rd, 2011, at 10am PST until the following Friday June 10th, 2011, at 10pm PST. This advance sale will be the only opportunity to take advantage of the Coachella Payment Plan. Passes will be available through a payment plan of 10% down and 8 equal monthly payments OR by payment in full.

The nearest airport is Palm Springs International Airport, 23 miles away. Car parking at the festival is free.
