Tashi Lhunpo Monks amongst first acts announced for Musicport

The Monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery are amongst the first names have been unveiled for the 12th Musicport which takes place from Friday 4th until Sunday 6th November 2011, at Bridlington Spa Theatre and Royal Hall, on Bridlington's sea front.

Hugh Masekela with The Mahotella Queens, Vusi Mahlasela, Thandiswa & Zolani Mahola will present a tribute to the late Miriam Makeba at this year's Musicport.

Also confirmed is Lapland's Sami tradition star Mari Boine, Spain's Mercedes Peon, Congolese soukous exponent Kanda Bongo Man, Tibetan traditional singer Namgyal Lhamo, Fado singer Claudia Aurora, Huong Thanh, and Iain Matthews one time member of Fairport Convention, and founder of Matthews Southern Comfort.

Also announced are Justin Vali, Cigdem Aslan, Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Mary Coughlan, Maria Kalaniemi, Juldeh Camara & Griselda Sanderson, Geoff Berner, Jonny Kearney & Lucy Farrell, Faerd, Dorge, Becker & Hjetland, Randolph Matthews, Byron Johnston, Asere, Geata Krar Collective, Kim Ritchie, Freya, Abbott, Ferguson, The Leano, Me & My Friends, and Fran Smith.

Musicport offers music, culture, food and crafts from all over the world throughout 3 days, over 4 stages. The festival also has workshops for adults including singing, dance, drumming, and didgeridoo. A programme of film, plenty of good cause and info stalls, trade stalls, and a Children's Festival.
