Fairport Acoustic Convention will be welcoming revellers to their festival on it's first day, Thursday 11th August, by opening the show with a short set. At 4pm the Festival Bell will sound in the village and Fairport will begin proceedings on stage.

"We've always closed the show" says Simon Nicol - the only founding member still in the band, "We just thought it would be nice to open it too!"

Tickets for the three day event usually go on sale in March but this year in response to VAT on all festival tickets increasing from 17.5% to 20%, the organisers of the Oxfordshire music festival are offering tickets early.

From 9am today (Wednesday 1st December) until midnight on Tuesday 14th December festival goers will be able to purchase 'early bird' discount tickets at the current lower rate of VAT and save 2.5%. This will mean a significant saving for families or groups buying multiple tickets. The box office will then re-open again on 1 March as in previous years.

VAT busting early bird tickets are priced as follows:
An adult weekend ticket £88.40
A weekend camping ticket £34.40
Adult Friday, and Saturday ticket £78.55
Adult Friday/Saturday camping ticket (for 12th & 13th August only) 29.47
Saturday only day ticket £58.94
Tickets for children under 12 years of age, are free. Children must be accompanied by an adult purchasing a ticket.

The annual festival of folk and rock music is held on the edge of the village of Cropredy, and run by Fairport Convention. This year's 31st anniversary of the festival will take place from Thursday 11th until Saturday 13 August 2011.

The line-up for the festival is yet to be announced.
