On this day 8th July back in 2001, within the surrounds of Leicester's De Montfort Hall, the first Summer Sundae Weekender began as a 1 day, 2 stage event. Since then Summer Sundae has gradually grown to become a renowned 3 day, 5 stage, camping festival, with over a hundred acts. With a holistic approach to planning it has become one of the most enjoyable weekends of the summer whilst retaining the same laidback bijou atmosphere as the inaugural event 9 years ago.

As the festival fast approaches Summer Sundae Weekender has announced the final additions to the bill with the cinematic sounds of multi instrumentalist DM Stith, (whose new album Heavy Ghost Appendices, was released to rave reviews this week), the folk-stomping barn-storming swingin' quintet The Moulettes, (whose recent rousing performance at Summer Sundae’s sister festival, The Big Session, assured their place on the bill), and hotly tipped singer songwriter Pete Molinari completes the new additions.

The three day family friendly music festival with full camping facilities offers festival goers over 100 acts with an eclectic mix of live bands of all styles and genres over six stages, and high calibre comedy in the eFestivals Comedy Tent. The dates for the tenth Summer Sundae Weekender held at De Montfort Hall, Leicester are confirmed as Friday 13th to Sunday 15th August.

Summer Sundae Weekender is also asking festival goers to submit their favourite Summer Sundae memories from over the past 10 years. Not only will the best ones will be published on the festival's website but entrants will automatically entered in a competition to win a pair of Summer Sundae 2011 tickets or a festival goodie bag! To enter send your favourite memories to competitions@demontforthall.co.uk.

For the 10th celebrations festival organisers have amassed an eclectic range of performers, with Seasick Steve leading the way on Friday, the twice chart topping pop/grime phenomenon Tinchy Stryder headlining Saturday night and bringing proceedings to a close on Sunday is the mighty Mumford & Sons. Summer Sundae Weekender has since its inception in 2001 it has expanded to a three day, six stage festival, with over a hundred acts. This year the festival will improve and expand the camping facilities, make further investment in The Garden - which has a seaside beach theme this year, The Kidzone, Films and Comedy Tents and The Village areas, and promises more treats to tantalise and entice patrons to celebrate the Summer Sundae Weekender, than ever before.

As a celebration of turning 10 this year parts of the surrounding festival locale will be transformed into a traditional seaside complete with its very own beach, as Summer Sundae number 10 goes 'Beside The Seaside'. Within a family-friendly seaside-themed area festival goers will be able relax on a proper deckchair, get creative with sandcastle building or just feel the sand between their toes. It's a chance to re-live childhood beach holidays with Punch and Judy shows, knobbly knee competitions, giant games, seaside entertainers, knitting, face painting and seaside-themed crafts.
