Madness to play free secret shows at Camden Crawl

BBC 6 Music will present a series of special appearances by Madness at this year's Camden Crawl.

The Digital Radio station today announced that it will play host to Madness, at a series of live free events, for which a ticket to Camden Crawl will not be required. These shows will be held at secret locations across Camden on Friday 24th April. Highlights of the performances will be broadcast as part of 6 Music's coverage of the two day festival. One lucky listener will even have the opportunity get in on the action and play with Madness; details of which can be found at bbc.co.uk/6music.

Jeff Smith, Head of Music for BBC 6 Music, said, "6 Music are delighted to bring Madness back to their spiritual home to give a performance that truly connects them to their home crowd and to the wider 6 Music audience.."

The best bits from Madness' performances will be broadcast during Steve Lamacq's show on Friday 24th April, with 6 Music's live coverage of the Crawl continuing on Saturday 25th April when Adam & Joe and Lauren Laverne present their shows live from Camden.

Camden Crawl returns over the weekend Friday 24th and Saturday 25th April, 2009, and will host over 150 acts to entertain 'Crawlers' in over 40 venues in Camden, London over the two days.

Madness join the acts confirmed for 2009 which include An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump, Bleech, BLK JKS, Dan Black, Drums Of Death, Eacho & The Bunnymen, The Fall, Fight Like Apes, General Fiasco, Hexe, I Blame Coco, It Hugs Back, Jim Jones, Josh Weller, Little Comets, Man Like Me, Peggy Sue, Pulled Apart By Horses, S.C.U.M., The Barker Band, The Chapman Family, The Computers, The King Blues, The Temper Trap, Three Trapped Tigers, Sparks, The View, Von Bondies, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The 2009 Crawl will, in addition to its line-up of live music acts, also feature an array of interactive daytime activities and cutting edge performances across the arts, including comedy with Underbelly & Falling Down With Laughter, visual art, arts & crafts, spoken word with Apples & Snakes, Bloody Awful Poetry, and Bookslam, speed hating, bingo & quizzes, short films, speed hating, spoken word, karauke - you sing they play ukulele, theatre, and more.

The programme kicks off from midday on Friday until the early hours of Sunday. Upon arrival each ticket holder will be presented with an all-access wristband, programme guide, timetable and a free download album.
