Commenting on the news that Mercury, BRIT and NME award winners Elbow will bring this year's Bestival to a close, festival organiser Rob da Bank said, "It's been a long road to landing our Sunday night headliners, much like the 18 year road our Sunday headliners have traveled 'til they finally got the exposure they deserve ... I'm well pleased that Elbow will be bringing things to a majestic grand finale on the Sunday of Bestival and can't think of a more suitable act after their mammoth year. All that aside they just make brilliant, honest music that judging by the biggest singalong I saw at Glastonbury last year will go down a storm on the Isle of Wight."

Bestival's other new live acts newly confirmed to the line-up are Doves, The Horrors, The Big Pink, Polly Scattergood, Casiokids, The Duloks, Fresh Legs, Xo-Man, and The Ghost.

DJs confirmed to add to the late night discotheque action include Toddla T, Appleblim, Martyn, 2562, Reso, Chris Coco, Pete Gooding, Daisy Heartbreaker, and Kasra.

This year at Bestival the whole of Saturday on the Bandstand will be a celebration of the Isle of Wight's own musical talents, dubbed, not unreasonably, Island Day. The bandstand will feature sets from JC & Angelina, Wight Light Orchestra, The Guy Page Trio, Santa Spirita, Joe Stilgoe, Cooly Haste, Hugo Frusslinky, Lucid, Papa Do Plenty, Simon Shelley, Sun Down City, The Chancers, The Gramophone, The Kurves, and The Operators.

Explaining the idea behind Island Day, Rob da Bank said, "Each year I get inundated with CDs of amazing bands and DJs from the Island and I can never fit enough on so this year we're giving the whole of the Saturday day and night on the Bandstand over to Isle Of Wight talent. From Blank Beats to The Shoots we've got the cream of the local bands and watch out for an announcement on a DJ day too."

The space themed Bestival returns to Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight, and happens from Friday 11th until Sunday 13th September 2009 and as well as the music, Bestival also offers cocktail bars, laughter clubs, a farmers market, kids area, morris dancing, magical moments and more, as one of the most colourful events on the festival calendar. Hopefully it will have lovely weather in 2009 too for this, the 'Year Of The Spectacular'.

This year's line-up sees Kraftwerk as the Saturday night headliners, Friday night it's the turn of Massive Attack. MGMT, Soulwax, Fleet Foxes, Seasick Steve, Klaxons, Bat For Lashes, Michael Nyman, The Beat, Squarepusher, The Future Sound Of London, Little Boots, Friendly Fires, Florence & The Machine, Bjorn Again, Fujiya and Miyagi, Metronomy, Dub Pistols, 2manydjs, James Yuill, Diplo, Alix Perez, Annie Mac, Beardyman, Buraka Som Sistema, Major Lazer, Rusko, DJ Derek, DJ Yoda, Fabio & Grooverider, are also confirmed.
