The Green Man Festival which takes place from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th August in the Brecon Beacons, Powys, Wales is running a competition for bands to win a slot playing at the festival.

The line-up for this year's event has been finalised, except Green Man is looking for one last band to open the festival. So they have started a search called Green Poll where the music loving public's help to discover this band.

The way the competition works is that bands register for Green Poll at the Green Poll website and the public then vote for the bands they like and get a chance to win themselves a pair of tickets at the same time.

The band who accrue the most votes will play Green Man and they also get 6 extra tickets. Anybody can enter Green Poll signed or unsigned. There's tickets to be won, and new bands to discover.

This is the chance to play alongside artists on a bill which includes Spiritualized as the Friday headliner, Super Furry Animals the Saturday headliner, The Peth, Pentangle, Iron and Wine, The National, Richard Thompson and Howlin' Rain (featuring members of Comets On Fire and Sunburned Hand of the Man), Devon Sproule, Black Mountain, Nina Nistasia, and School Of Language amongst a host of other names. For the line-up details as available please click here.

Returning this year will be the campfire ceilidhs, a second stage and DJ tent. The festival will be remaining the same size as in 2007, at 10,000 people. The festival offers plenty of live music with lots of folk and folktronica bands, plus film in a cinema tent, literature, healing area, workshop and children's areas, and DJs.

The children's area is set in the wonderful Victorian Walled Garden in a safe and happy environment. A full weekend of activities includes story telling, arts and crafts, music workshops, puppet shows and a chance to have your own animation shown in the cinema tent!

In the Literature Tent the best of up and coming Welsh and International authors and the return of the Mojo interview with one of the main artists appearing at the festival.

The Folk Exchange (open mic sessions) take place on the Solar Powered Milk Float Stage. A chance to share your talent whilst leaving no carbon footprint. Comedy and enlightened speakers will be exploring issues from every side and Ringo Bingo offers you the chance to gamble with a clear conscience. Plus Eco housing, organic produce and those rather nice carved wooden figures.

There will also be a new End Up Bar which is the late bar open long into the night by the bonfire and Rumpus room with a piano where all ivory tinklers are welcome.

Tickets are priced at £105 for the weekend including on-site camping and parking, with children aged 12 and under free. Live-in vehicles are an additional £35. Click here to buy.
