Summer Sundae Weekender have announced the addition of the new Phrased & Confused tent at the the festival which takes place at De Montfort Hall and Gardens, Leicester from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th August.

Artists already confirmed for Phrased & Confused include songwriter Kenny Anderson (of King Creosote fame), who'll be duetting with Phrased & Confused veteran Emma Pollock (ex-Delgados); the witty Oulipo Poets, and New Leaf artist, Essie Jain.

This year there will also be commissions offered to four artists, who will each be asked to create at least 15 minutes of new material with the brief entitled 'Which comes first, the music or the words?'. The four winners will get the chance to perform at least once over the festival. With funding from Arts Council England, each commission is worth £1000. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 11th June, and artists interested in finding out more about the commissions can do so at www.phrasedandconfused.co.uk.

The commissioned artists will get to perform their new material as part of a Phrased & Confused festival line up that will see poets, songwriters and MCs explore the common ground between lyrics and poetry in front of an anticipated audience of some 2000 music fans.

Julia Payne, who heads up the Phrased & Confused team says that she hopes that the commissions, "Will give artists the chance to create new material which will 'speak to' music fans, and open up a new audience to their work along the way", adding that, "We've been working with Summer Sundae Weekender on this idea for a while, and we're really pleased to be part of what we think is one of the most exciting and individual festivals in the country."

Summer Sundae Weekender organiser, Richard Haswell, reckons that the addition of the Phrased & Confused tent is a real plus for the festival, saying that it will "build on the musical diversity and scope of the festival, giving audiences yet more choice, and hopefully building a new fan base for the featured poets."

Other artists confirmed include Dead Slow, C*Bob and the Sunshine Blues, Calder, Catherine Tran, Stevie Jones with Mark Gill, Joel Owen, Dan Arborise, Maximum Danger Project, Leicester All Skas, Special Ed and the Shortbus, Uncle Frank, Dawson Smith & The Dissenters, Longhorn Slim, John Budding, Greg Gent, Andy Whittle, and Small Bear.
