Chuck Berry, one of the most influential figures in popular music and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music has been confirmed as the headliner for the Friday night of the 10th Maryport Blues Festival, which takes place at Maryport, Cumbria from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th July 2008.

The festival features top international musicians from the US, UK, Australia and Scandinavia performing the many types of music which falls under the blues umbrella encompassing zydeco, jazz, soul, rock in addition to the traditional blues genres of Chicago, Texas, and delta blues.

US blues diva Shemekia Copeland will also be playing Friday evening. Legendary blues guitarist, Jimmie Vaughan will headline the Saturday night with an exclusive UK performance, support that night will come from British singer songwriter, Beth Rowley. Jools Holland and the Rhythm & Blues Orchestra will headline the Maryport Blues Festival on Sunday July 27th with Marc Almond and Ruby Turner the special guests performing with Jools Holland. The Sunday will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Maryport Blues Festival, featuring some of the artists who have appeared at the festival over the last decade.

Other confirmed artists include Earl Thomas, Jon Cleary and the Absolute Monster Gentlemen, Derrin Nauendorf and Jeff Lang, Lisa Mills and Ian Jennings, and Scandinavian blues band Little Jenny and the Blue Beans. Many more acts are still to be announced.

Tickets will go on sale in May, from Carnegie Theatre Box Office, Finkle Street, Workington (01900 602122) - the prices are still to be confirmed.
