Massive Attack announce Meltdown line-up

Massive Attack are curating this year's Meltdown festival held at the Southbank Centre, London from Saturday 14th to Tuesday 24th June have announced an eclectic line-up of artists and screenings for this year.

Massive Attack themselves will be playing twice at the Royal Festival Hall on Saturday 14th and Sunday 22nd June. Their special guests over the eleven days include Grace Jones, Elbow, Fleet Foxes, Gong, Stiff Little Fingers, Horace Andy, The Shortwave Set, and Martina Topley-Bird.

Other confirmed artists are Gang Of Four, Tom Tom Club, Johnny Clarke, Terry Callier, Aloe Blacc, Tunng, Leila Earl 16,Prince Malachai, Mark Stewart & The Maffia, Showcase Edit, Adrian Sherwood, and Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Massive Attack will also be presenting a showcase called the 'Future Sounds of Hip-hop' with Dalek, Cool Kids, Shape Of Broad Minds, and Flying Lotus. Saxon Sound System make an appearance with Musclehead, Tippa Irie, Trevor Sax and Papa Levi. There's also a 'Silent Disco' with guest DJs including Kieran Hebden (Four Tet) And Peaches.

Other highlights will include Vangelis' Blade Runner Soundtrack performed live by the Heritage Orchestra, and mixed by Massive Attack. Screenings of Taxi to the Dark Side, Blade Runner: The Final Cut, The Night James Brown Saved Boston, Shane Meadow's Somers Town, In Prison My Whole Life, and BUG: Massive Attack's Videos. Plus there will be pre-show sessions with Trojan Sound System And Blast Theory's Day Of The Figurines.

Prices vary depending on show and venue, tickets go on sale at 9am this Friday 25th April.

Each year Meltdown offers a guest director the chance to produce their own fantasy festival, mixing artists and art forms, and reflecting their own personal passions and interests.

Massive Attack are following in the footsteps of previous festival hosts John Peel, Robert Wyatt, Scott Walker, David Bowie, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Morrissey, Patti Smith and Jarvis Cocker.

During Meltdown, Massive Attack will take over all 21 acres of the Southbank Centre, including the riverside, Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall. The trip hop heroes will curate the event throughout the nine days with concerts, DJ sets, talks, films, and visual art all flavoured with their own strong political and visual elements.
