comedy announced for Wychwood

more than just music at the crime-free, family-friendly festival

By Neil Greenway | Published:

Wychwood Festival, which takes place at Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire from Friday 1st until Sunday 3th June 2007, has announced the comedy happening at this year's festival.

Sponsored by eFestivals, the Ribbed Comedy Club takes place on The Other stage from 10pm every evening, showcasing some of the best talent in UK comedy. Headlining the Friday line-up is Liverpudlian stand-up Silky, who runs his Kill For A Seat clubs across the UK, supported by Andrew O'Neill, and James Sherwood. Saturday's headline act is the legendary Mundo Jazz, described by The Times as 'a combination of genuinely thrilling harmonies and killer songs with side-splitting gags', with support from Terry Saunders and Roland Gent. Sunday is headlined by Alfie Joey, who's appeared in Johnny Vegas' sitcom 'Ideal' and the Channel 4 documentary telling the story behind the theft of Bob Monkhouse's treasured comedy ledgers. Support is from Tim Craven, and Gary Delaney.

As part of Wychwood Festival's commitment to families and children, there's a comprehensive programme of workshops across the festival weekend, with the diverse array of workshops echoing the diversity of the festival's music line-up. Festival goers and their children can sample a wide range of activities and learn from the experts - from dancing (tango, salsa, African, break and belly among others) to drumming, lantern making to Indian puppetry, clay making to making instruments, yoga to fire-breathing, there's something for everyone.

With its success based on a great reputation including a crime-free record, festival director Graeme Merifield commented, "the ticket sales show that Wychwood has really caught people's imaginations and loyalties. They know now that they will get a brilliant weekend of live music in a safe, clean, family friendly environment".

Music at Wychwood this comes from the headliners of Levellers, Fun Lovin' Criminals, and Afro Celt Soundsystem, with other acts such as Robyn Hitchcock & the Venus 3, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Ba Cissoko, Ian Hunter, Badly Drawn Boy, Zion Train, Transglobal Underground, Etran Finatawa, Adjagas, Anoushkar Shankar, Go Lem System, Eliza Carthy, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Subgiant, Balkan Beat Box, Shooglenifty, Country Joe McDonald, and more - click here for the full available details, now including day and stage splits (but not necessarily in running order).

Tickets are on sale, costing £95 for an adult weekend ticket or £75 for a youth (12-18)/concession weekend ticket, and day tickets priced at £28 (£20 youth/conc) for the Friday, £48 (£35 youth/conc) for the Saturday, and £38 (£25 youth/conc) for the Sunday. Under-12s are free. To buy tickets click here.

Unlike just about every other festival, cars are allowed on the campsite for people to unload, then they must drive off to the car park.
