The competition winner could see their idea brought to life at the big festivals of the summer, including V, the Carling Weekend, and Glastonbury. The Oxfam festival team will also work with the winner on their idea, and invite them and a mate to Leeds Festival to see it brought to life (just to be clear: the winner gets a pair of Carling Weekend: Leeds festival tickets).
Oxfam wants an innovative and participative idea that will communicate the issue of climate change in a hectic, muddy, festival environment. "Every year Oxfam campaigns at all the major festivals talking to people about ways they can help end poverty" says Youth Project Manager, Benny Littlejohn. "We have a chill out tent, Fairtrade coffee shop, a team of campaigners, banners, flags and all that stuff, but somethings missing. We want the public to tell us what that missing ingredient is."
The idea has to be easy to understand and inspire people to get involved. Further details and the full brief can be found on the Oxfam website oxfam.org.uk/generationwhy. The closing date for entries is Friday 23 February the winner will be chosen on Monday 12 March and invited in to Oxfam to work on their idea.
Generation Why is an Oxfam website. It has lots of ways for young people to get involved with Oxfam, from sporting challenges and club nights to volunteering at festivals giving people the chance to do what they enjoy most and fight poverty at the same time. Oxfams campaigning focus at festivals this year is climate change, and how it is hitting poor people first and hardest (even thought they are least responsible for causing it).
