Desmond Dekker dies, aged 64

By eFestivals Newsroom | Published:

Jamaican reggae star Desmond Dekker has died aged 64 from a heart attack at his home in Surrey.

Dekker was best known for his single 'Israelites', originally released in 1968. He performed at Endorse-It In-Dorset festival last summer, and was due to perform at The Rhythm Festival, Lovebox Weekender, Belladrum Tartan Heart, Bristol Festival, Godiva and Musicport this year.

Dekker was still actively touring until the end, and gave his last performance at Leeds Metropolitan University on May 11th. By chance, eGigs was there to cover that gig and has a full review of Desmond Dekker's last ever performance here. These may also be the last ever photos of Dekker performing.
