ActionAid wants Hi:Fi North to back HIV/Aids campaign

By Neil Greenway | Published:

ActionAid An international charity is ready to get muddy in the fight against HIV/Aids by calling on the 25,000 people at Hi:Fi North to support its campaign. ActionAid wants every reveller at this North East festival to pose for a photo holding a message to politicians.

World leaders are on record promising to provide treatment to all those who need it by 2010, and ActionAid wants Hi:Fi North to tell the likes of Blair, Brown and Benn to put their money where their mouth is.

The photo messages - which are designed to look like records – will then be sent to MPs and also uploaded to an online gallery at www.actionaidspace.org.

Brendan O’ Donnell, ActionAid youth campaigns manager, said: “40 million people worldwide are living with HIV&AIDS; 95% are in developing countries; but only 1.3 million have access to life saving treatment.

“World leaders and UK politicians are on record promising to provide treatment to all those who need it by 2010 – and we want to ensure that they keep their promise.Help us by getting On Record at AA Space at Hi:Fi.”

People can get On Record at the ActionAid Space tent in the Hi:Fi North chill out area. In the tent DJs will be providing a laid-back soundtrack and ActionAid campaigners will be on hand to chat about the campaign.

ActionAid will also be onsite at Global Gathering and Reading Festival in a bid to get thousands more people On Record and behind the campaign.

Hi:Fi North takes place for one day and night on Saturday 27th May at the Matfen Estate near Newcastle, and features Ian Brown, Editors, Dirty Pretty Things, Brakes, Maximo Park, ¡Forward, Russia!, plus the world's best DJs including Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, Erick Morillo, 2 Many DJs, and loads more - click here fopr full line-up details.
