Mean Fiddler - the company behind the Reading & Leeds festivals - have revealed more about their new festival Latitude.

Happening in the grounds of the historic Henham Park Estate in Suffolk - near the most easterly English coastline between Southwold and Aldeburgh - across the weekend of Friday 14th – Sunday 16th July 2006, the new festival is the vision of Mean Fiddler boss, Melvin Benn.

“Diversity is the main thing here,” explains Benn, “I want to bring that genteel, less manic feel that European festivals have to Latitude. The Haye On Wye event has also inspired me a lot and I want to incorporate elements of that to our festival. I want to be able to wander from books to music to film in the way you can in your own sitting room. I am looking forward to that feeling of being able to listen live to the music and then the words of an author or poet or environmentalist rather than just reading it in the newspapers or listening on a CD.”

The first music acts are confirmed, with headline sets from Snow Patrol, Antony & The Johnsons, and Mogwai, with all the music specifically hand-picked for this festival the soundtrack the hazy summer weekend, adding to its essentially holiday atmosphere.

There's literature with the likes of Robin Ince’s Book Club of comics, writers, and performers telling stories and bring you readings accompanied, appropriately, by saccharine or sublime soundtracks, and the legendary Vox 'n' Roll - informal readings combined with music that humbly began at Filthy MacNasty's in London.

There's performance poetry, comedy from the likes of Marcus Brigstocke, Rob Newman and many more, and the Guilty Pleasures disco for that sneaky dance to your favourite cheesy tune. There's cabaret full of surprises and spectacular stage shows, film with quirky movies and music courtesy of The Noise of Art and Halloween, plus shorts, art, silent films and visuals, accompanied by live music, video, dancers and DJ’s throughout the weekend.

The thespian in you can witness the very best in up and coming fringe theatre, with groups of actors bringing a host of readings, scripts and contemporary shows to Latitude prior to performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Theatre Festival. The Leftfield - familiar at Glastonbury - has a mix of performance and politics that will add a whole new dimension to the event. And the site will be adorned with original and innovative works of art which are inspired both by the local setting as well as contemporary British artists.

Tickets are priced at £95 for Weekend tickets, with Day tickets £40 for any day. Weekend tickets prices include car parking and camping. Days include car parking only. Click here to buy.
