record breaking Guilfest

By Neil Greenway | Published:

A new world record was set at Guilfest yesterday when thousands of people took part in the biggest "air guitar ensemble" ever held. More than 4,000 people (the exact number was 4,083) tuned up and plugged in - or, alternatively, just signed up to take part - to help set the record.

Led from the stage by a trio of famous air guitar maestros (and a Dalek!?!), they played air guitars to the music of Guns 'n' Roses' "Sweet Child of Mine", and although it was generally fantastic there were a few people playing bum notes - get some lessons! My own virtuoso performance - including playing the guitar behind my head - was cut short when I broke an air-string.

Festival organisers are now waiting for confirmation from the Guinness Book of Records. Tony Scott, the festival's organiser said: "We are thrilled to have broken the world record. This has always been a special festival which keeps getting better and obviously this year we have struck a new chord". The world record was set just minutes before veteran rockers Status Quo appeared on stage.

The whole weekend was a fantastic and scorching success. We'll have reviews and exclusive photos online shortly.
