Reading Festival organisers Mean Fiddler are trying to get an increase in capacity of 10,000 for this year's festival.

An application has been made to Reading Council to increase the number of attendees from 55,000 to 65,000, to try to satisfy demand for tickets, which are all very nearly sold out - just a few day tickets are still available.

So that the extra numbers don't impact on the town in a major way, it's envisaged that the extra tickets would be sold as part of a travel package of either rail and ticket or National Express and ticket. The application to increase the capacity isn't expected to be heard until sometime in June, and the extra tickets will only be made available if the application is approved.

However, some councillors are already expressing their objections, believing that the site is already at capacity, while MF's Melvin Benn believes the site could cope with the extra numbers.

It's proposed that the site would be enlarged by making the car park used last year (due to waterlogging of the Rivermead site) the regular car park, freeing up space for the extra numbers.

A few day tickets are still available for the Friday and Sunday at Reading by clicking here.

Alternatively, both weekend and tickets for every day are still available for the twin Leeds festival, although they're selling fast (so don't leave it too long!). Click here for Leeds tickets.

Both festivals take place from Friday 26th until Sunday 28th August, with Reading festival at Richfield Avenue, Reading, Berkshire, and Leeds festival at Bramham Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire.

The festivals have headliners of Pixies, Foo Fighters, and Iron Maiden, as well as The Killers, Kings of Leon, Marilyn Manson and many more.
