Cardiff "Live Aid" to raise Asian tsunami appeal funds?

By Neil Greenway | Published:

There could be "Live Aid" type concert held at Cardiff's Millenium Stadium, to raise funds for the Asian tsunami disaster appeal. It's hoped that at least £1M would be raised by the event.

It's likely that a concert would strongly feature Welsh acts, with the Manic Street Preachers and Stereophonics reported as topping the wish list, and opera star Katherine Jenkins and singer Charlotte Church also being mentioned.

If it's going to come together, things have to happen quickly. The grass pitch is due to be put back into the stadium on the 24th January - after that date the stadium wouldn't be free to host this sort of event until the summer.

It's expected that a final decision on whether the concert will go ahead will be made within the next five days. If it does, it's likely to take place on Saturday 22nd January.
