ActionAid gets NASTY at Reading Festival

By Neil Greenway | Published:

International development charity ActionAid will be giving the Reading Festival a NASTY twist, together with the almighty DJ duo Queens of Noize and eclectic DJs Del Gazeebo and Peepshow Paddy.

The new ActionAid ‘Brand Nasty’ campaign will call on the UK government to reign in abuses by British companies in some of the world’s poorest countries.

The ActionAid tent, home to last year’s ‘Nelson Mandela crowd surfing’ incident, will offer comfy sofas, table tennis, table football and giant Jenga by day. Karaoke will kick off at 7pm with a nightly line up of NASTY DJs from 9pm till late.

Festival-goers will be encouraged to demand laws that force UK companies to behave in an ethical way in developing countries.

Brendan O’Donnell, ActionAid campaigner says: “‘Brand Nasty’ is a caricature of UK companies that behave badly in poor countries. The UK government must stop abuses by fat cat companies – we need new laws to protect vulnerable people.”

The ActionAid tent has been a great hit with Reading festival-goers in previous years, attracting comments such as: “There’s nothing like it on site. It’s a place to go after the big bands play. It’s a place with a message – people see it, read it, take it in. Plus you get these lovely badges.”
