It's been announced that Morrissey is to be Artistic Director for Meltdown, to be held from 11th - 27th June at the South Bank Centre, London.

Each year, Meltdown offers a guest director the chance to produce his or her own fantasy festival, mixing artists and art forms, reflecting their own personal passions and interests. Previous directors have included Lee Scratch Perry, David Bowie, Robert Wyatt and Scott Walker.

Morrissey says: "For me, this is a privilege and I will rise to it. Curating Meltdown is a great opportunity for me to acknowledge some of the music and words that have excited me over the years. Some of you have Ipods, I have Meltdown."

There's no guarantee that Morrissey himself will perform, although it does seem likely. The line-up will be announced soon.
