Reading train chaos

By Neil Greenway | Published:

It's now been confirmed that trains won't be running between London Paddington and Reading (and of course back again) during the Reading Festival weekend.

It's been known that work to repair that section of line has been scheduled for quite some time, and representations have been made to Network Rail to review the decision. But the track needs urgent repair (and imagine the outcry if there was an accident!), and usage will be still be half the normal use on that line over the bank holiday weekend, even taking the festival attendees into account.

It will still be possible to get to Reading from London using the service from Waterloo, although the journey time is about 40 minutes longer. You can book tickets online by clicking on the train icon to the left.

Alternatively, you can travel to Reading using the special services run by National Express from around the country - click here to buy online. These are likely to sell out quicker due to the disruption with the train services.

Boooking your travel by either of the options above earns a small commission for this website - and helps us pay the bills - while costing you no more for your ticket.

Reading Festival takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend of Friday 22nd August until Sunday 24 August along with the simultaneous Leeds Festival.

Both the Reading and Leeds Festivals have a line-up that includes Linkin Park, Blur, Metallica, Blink 182, Placebo, The White Stripes, Beck, Doves, System of a Down, Sum 41, Primal Scream, and loads more already announced, with even more still to be announced. For the confirmed acts (so far) and the rumours click here for Reading and here for Leeds.

Reading Festival takes place Little Johns Farm, Richfield Avenue, Reading, Berkshire, and Leeds Festival takes place at Bramham Park, nr Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Tickets are priced at £95 for the weekend (including camping) and £40 for any day. Weekend tickets for Reading are already sold out, and day tickets are selling very fast.
