Leeds Festival definite to go ahead

By Neil Greenway | Published:

Leeds Festival has succeeded in getting a Public Entertainments Licence for its alternative site at Bramham Park, near Wetherby, West Yorkshire, meaning that the event in August will definitely go ahead.

The application for the site that's been used in previous years - Temple Newsam Park, Leeds - is expected to be heard tomorrow, and organisers Mean Fiddler would rather hold the event there is the licence is granted.

The Leeds City Council licensing panel spent all day considering the apllication at privately-owned stately home of Bramham Park near Wetherby, before deciding to grant the licence, even though the applications for both sites were opposed by both the police and local residents.

There has been trouble at the end of the festival the last few years, when toilet blocks have been set on fire, and more besides. This led to a number of people being arrested and convicted for their part in the trouble earlier this year. To help lessen the chance of any repeat again this year, non-combustible toilets will be used and security will be stepped up.

Both the Leeds and Reading Festivals take place from Friday 22nd until Sunday 24 August with a line-up that includes Linkin Park, Blur, Metallica, Blink 182, Placebo, The White Stripes, Beck, Doves, System of a Down, Sum 41, Primal Scream, and loads more already announced, with even more still to be announced.
