Eight teenagers - aged 18 and 19 - have been convicted of violent disorder at last years Leeds Festival after pleading guilty. They have been given sentences of community service, and also have to pay compensation for damage caused to organisers Mean Fiddler.

There are three others who have also admitted violent disorder who are still to be dealt with by the crown court.

Damage costed at £250,000 was caused during the trouble, and 44 people were hurt.

This was the third year there has been trouble at the end of the Festival. Although Mean Fiddler are hoping to hold the Festival again this year, they have to overcome objections from those living nearby, as well as secure the backing of the police, in order to obtain a licence for the event. The stupid actions of some are again putting the future of a major UK festival in doubt.
