Extravagant Jools

a re-styled do at the Abbey

By Neil Greenway | Published:

Michael Eavis (of Glastonbury Festival) has run the Classical Extravaganza at Glastonbury Abbey for seven years.

Next year sees it drop the "classical" tag, and have Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra providing the entertainment.

Michael explained 'I have a good relationship with Jools. He loves to come to our Glastonbury Festival and we go to his Hootenany TV show at the New Year. If the new format works really well – and I think that we will sell all the tickets because Jools is so popular – in future years we might revert to the two night format, but with a different programme on each night – perhaps with Jools on the Saturday and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra providing a traditional popular classics night on the Friday.'

Also performing in 2003 is Nicola Benedetti, a 15 year old violinist who won the Britain's Brilliant Prodigies television competition earlier this year.
