Marilyn Manson : NEC, 23rd November 2003

REVIEW

By Luke Seagrave | Published:

The god of fuck returned to England with his 'Grotesque Burlesk tour. The problem now with Marilyn Manson is that he just isn't shocking anymore. The British public seem to actually go to his shows now for the music and really don't care what sick stunts he pulls.

He arrived on stage by being lowered onto the stage from a turret, then wasted no time in getting the audience to cheer and shout. He is more of an idol than a shock rocker.

The audience were treated to all of his big hits 'Mobscene', 'The Dope Show' and he even got the audience to sing along to 'Tainted Love' - quite a surreal experience.

Obviously the biggest crowd reaction took place during 'Sweet Dreams' and 'The Beautiful People' which caused the audience to act like hysterical maniacs.

He tried his best to shock, by doing things like going behind a screen and imitating having oral sex. The problem is that the audience have become bored with it. He really needs to think up something that hasn't been done before.

Apart from all the attempts at trying to shock, this show was thoroughly enjoyable, the music was fantastic and Marilyn Manson has mastered the art of manipulating a crowd with just a mere hand gesture.
