Womad is an acronym for World Of Music, Arts and Dance. Started by Peter Gabriel and others to give world music a platform, WOMAD is now firmly established at locations around the world.
The main UK event was held at Rivermead in Reading from 1990 until 2006, and moved to a new home at Charlton Park, near Malmesbury in Wiltshire in 2007. It's been held there annually ever since.
