V2000 (Chelmsford) reviews

By Zoe | Published:

V2000 was Underworld's only UK festival performance this summer. They have been working hard on their new DVD/CD/Video, 'Everything, Everything' which culminates their live performances over the last 18 months. Well, if their performance at V2000 is anything to go we should all rush out and buy that DVD!

The 'band' came on stage amid a fluffy of technical sorting-out and people rushing on and off stage. We wondered if it was all going to work out, when it started.

Simple coloured lights showered the crowd and the technical wizardry of Underworld building the atmosphere in the Arena. The crowd was pretty big, but there was plenty of room to dance as strict security limited the number of people allowed into the tent that was the JJB Arena.

Underworld looked slightly strange with Darren Emerson missing, who left the band recently, but the remaining Rick and Karl seemed excited and fresh, ready to move us. They certainly did that.

Each tune lasted around fifteen minutes as Underworld lifted the crowd in to a frenzy and then brought them down again. It was a fantastic gig, with Karl and Rick, pulling out all the stops to entertain.

The crowd was drawn in to the technical, yet classic sound of Underworld as Born Slippy and King of Snake spilled out and took control. The crowd danced, jumped, sang and waved their arms as Karl's dancing energy drew them further in to the music.

This was the highlight of V2000. Underworld left smiling, as did the crowd.
