Groove Armada

V2000 (Chelmsford) reviews

By Skye Hi | Published:

On the whole Groove Armadas album, Vertigo, is a chilled, smooth, easy to listen to affair but the live show is something else.........that these two guys, Andy Cato and Tom Findlay could play the same tunes but in such a totally different way was impressive and made for a very lively show.

The arena was filled to capacity and we rocked. Off to good start with 'I see you baby' the tempo remained up for the whole set including 'The River' which on the album is so smooth and calm but on stage was mixed to sound far more interesting.

The live act included a drummer, a brass player, a rapper/MC and a female singer who really worked at getting the crowd involved and had a big presence on the stage. Andy also jumped up regularly making signals to other band members, almost orchestrating, and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself. Songs like 'If everybody looked the same' and 'Inside my mind (Blue skies)' were greeted with huge cheers and the crowd were bouncing around with arms in the air. Andy got his trombone out for a couple of smooth moments but the beat always kicked back in.

Between them all, singer, rapper, and the musicians they played a set that was packed with energy and we had heard the album in a brand new way - superb!
