T in the Park 2006 reviews

By Scott Johnson | Published:

1990’s are another one of the overly average indie rock bands that T has managed to cram into this year’s line-up. They are far from bad, and there are moments of brilliance in their set when you think a song is about to take off, and then it ends all too suddenly.

1990’s have a very stripped down feel to them, they don’t sound overly polished and their music isn’t layered heavy with sound effects. Musically the resemblance with The Rakes is a close one. They have a very similar stop-start style of playing and it transfers live particularly well.

They manage to mix in a bit of The Proclaimers ‘1000 Miles’ and Sonny Curtis’s ‘I fought the law’ to one of their songs.

None of the tracks were instant attention grabbers and the crowd wasn’t half as big as it was during Futuro earlier. This either reflected the ability of the bands performing at the T-Break stage or was rather an indication that as the evening went on the T-Break artists suffered from having to compete with the larger acts on the other stages.

‘I’m just enjoying myself’, and ‘Weed’ were both on the set-list, as well a new single and set closer ‘You’re supposed to be my friend’.
