Macy Gray

T in the Park 2000 review

Macy Gray

A large crowd preparing for Travis were present to hear Macy Gray's vocal set, the second last act on the main stage on Sunday night. She emerged following a long introduction to the band wearing bright orange baggy trousers and trademark bandana.

The first song was Why Didn't You Call Me followed by Do Something with Macy's vocals not disappointing and sticking close to the album tracks. Third was a popular Sex-O-matic Venus Freak with the band taking part in some synchronised bowing which Macy unsuccessfully attempted to get the audience to join in with. She is very keen to get audience participation and half succeeds by getting the girls in the crowd to sing along with The Dick, The Dick (the most tragic invention ever - she said!).

Next was "a song about fucked up love" Still, beautifully sung followed by I've Committed Murder and a further spattering of album tracks. "My trousers are falling down" she shouts, "if they fall down I want you all to take yours off" - get on with it we think to ourselves. I Can't Wait To Meechu is greeted very well followed by a huge sing along to I Try despite the intensity of the rain which is now very heavy. This is followed by Everything's Gonna Be Alright, Bob Marley style.

Macy disappears once or twice leaving the excellent band to amuse us with some funky jazz instrumental. We were hear to hear her sing and that she did very well, could do with a little less attempt at audience participation though. Having said that it was a very nice warm up for Travis.
